205 Correcting Bad Bend Features

Bad bend features include:

  • Wrinkles on the inside of the bend.
  • Lumps on the outside of the tube at the end of the bend.
  • Scratches in clamp area.
  • Ball segment bumps in bend area.
  • Scratches on inside of bend area.
  • Tooling marks on centerline.
  • Too much collapse in the bend.
  • Tearing in the bend area.

These are indications of worn tooling, misaligned tooling, too much, or too little clamp or pressure die force.

Identifying exactly what to fix can be frustrating and costly in terms of scrap. An interactive bend correction chart can be found here that relates the symptoms to their causes.
