305 Handling BreakdownsAs soon as possible, identify whether or not available local resources (talent and parts) will correct the problem. If not, call in an expert. Down time hurts ROI. Every hour counts, how much does the machine produce in sales? $3000.00 per hour? Service is then very inexpensive. Mechanical Breakdowns: Take digital pictures of the problem area and email them to your repair source so the correct parts can be identified and shipped. Be prepared to spend some time at the machine with a cell phone. Electrical Breakdowns: Heaven forbid that you saw smoke from the electrical cabinet but, if so, take digital pictures of the problem area and email them to your repair source so the correct parts can be identified and shipped. Electronic Breakdowns / Controls Problems: Should there be a board level problem, nine times out of ten, it's caused by corrosion on the connector contacts. That can be fixed by wriggling the connectors or by unplugging and then replugging them. With hard wired (as apposed to a light bus) communications nearby operations that generate a lot of electrical noise, like a welder, can cause sporatic problems that are very hard to trace. Many manufacturers rely on PC Anywhere (tm) software and similar programs that allow correction of programming errors with a minimum of lost time and expense. |
